@01:36Really nice animation in here man. As others have said, probably not placed in the best order. Animation companies usually judge showreels by the first 10-20 seconds which has to be your best stuff. While your intro is a nice starter, it does go on abit and doesnt have your best animation in it...tough studio folks could judge you on that intro alone.
Shame some of the traditional animation linetests werent that clear, but the coloured versions of it looked great. Also, could maybe work on abit more variety and a few more cycles. Its very squash and stretch which is your style, but would be nice to see more realistic proportioned characters doing some actions or walk cycles.
Its a good reel man, i would say just re-arrange it slightly, cut the intro for something quicker...name with title and contact info for 2 seconds, straight into animation. Throw in some more varied work, cut out some of your older work, see if you can trim it down to a concise 90 seconds, or a very tight 60 seconds.
of course you submitted this ages ago so I dunno how much this has developed, so i am probably just waffling.
holy shit you are allowed to submit FILM to devinat art?
that is amazing. they first need to ALLOW this like i am NOT allowed to submit film.
to be honest you are BREAKING deviant art'S rules there. i won't fart on you because i think its silly but da is always totally butthurt about copyright stuff. "Music is Donkey Ride by Mr. Scruff" that is against DA's rules and if anybody dares to point it out - which i hope will never happen- they will delete this submission. unless you got permission from mr scruff which i kinda doubt. so yeh its against their rules and could get deleted in the future- dang :C
but im also like lol what a sneaky bastard. getting the permission to submit movies and then ignores their rules. also what a coincidence: im currently listening to mr scruff.
really try it. its still there. you are aware the music kicks in later in the film and not right from the start? XD might be you cant remember anymore you put it there. but i have tried it with different browsers (no more cache stuff) and it definitely is still there.
A: If they do delete it I'm just back where I started and I can just submit it again without music anyways B: I'm making a new reel soon C: Demo Reels usually have music like this and it's perfectly legal to do so. D: I am a sneaky bastard.
it isnt perfectly legal just because everyone does it. it is against copyright laws as stupid as it is and deviant art sticks very very hard to them. even if its just 3 seconds of a song- so no sampling? its totally silly but the way it is, really.
i would say he is VERY misinformed about it. read up on copyright laws on the internets. basically: you are not allowed to use anything that isn't yours. no matter WHAT you are doing.
do a silly flash animation and put a sound sample from the simpsons in it: lawsuit ahoy. sell your psp on ebay and use a picture provided by sony aka you didnt take one yourself: lawsuit ahoy.
seriously. you didnt make it you dont hold the copyright you are not allowed to use it without permission. no matter if you pay for it or not. its that simple actually so your teacher seems to be misinformed.
for my movie when i graduate: if you do a real movie (i want to dodge it with doing an animation) it isnt bad to hire actors- like wannabe actors. its a win win situation. you are a wannabe film maker and get to make a film and they get to act in a film. you could give them your movie as show reel but our teacher also warned us "you cant use any copyrighted music for this then- of course not". just an example. say if you just do your animations for some classes in school no one will find out but if its online and everywhere to see - its a big no go.
